ABOUT
THIS BOOK
Bondi is seven kilometres from the city of Sydney, and maintains a
village atmosphere. Many people come here to enjoy the beautiful beach
and surf. Bondi has many faces. The sand is not always golden yellow,
the water clear and blue, with curling waves. As with all coastal
beaches, it has its own moods: from huge seas and giant surf, to the
tranquillity of a flat, calm bay, and from a bright, blue ocean to
steely-grey waves, with freezing southerly winds.
This book is dedicated to the memory of Bondi pre-1800s. We imagine
it to be a place of incredible natural beauty. It would have had sloping,
grassy sandhills, running freshwater creeks and sparkling lagoons.
You can still find pristine areas, as Bondi once was, at various beaches
on the Australian coastline.
We hope the journey through this book, and Bondi, will enable you
to enjoy some of the village atmosphere, paint a picture of its origins
and changes, and guide you in your discovery of beautiful Bondi.
